    40 km Trek

    40 kilometre Trek

Yesterday ten of our toughest pupils in year 8 & 9 joined me on a 40 kilometre trek through some of the region's toughest forest terrain. The trek followed the Vildmarksleden all the way from Hindås to Göteborg (Skatås). After taking a very early morning train to Hindås we started the long trek back to Göteborg. For the first 1½ hours it was dark with a suprisingly large amount of snow on the ground. It wasn't long before the whole group was soaking wet after repeated marsh crossings in the ice cold water. However this group of pupils are mentally tough so the cold wet conditions just made them more determined to complete this 40km trek. At around the half way point spirits were significantly raised after an amusing incident along a forest track. It's just amazing what you see even deep in the forest in the middle of nowhere in minus degree temperatures! However what goes on tour stays on tour, so further details cannot be revealed! The group trekked on into the early evening, with the last 2 hours in complete darkness on smally hilly rocky paths. Finally we arrived in Skatås after 8 hours 56 minutes. A fantastic achievement.

    Team points victory

    Team points victory.
The junior classes have been making use of our house teams this term. From Reception to Year 4 students have been given team points for good work or behavior so that we can encourage the values we want from the students. The teams are yellow for St David, blue for St Andrew, red for St George and green for St Patrick. This term the winners of our team points shield was the yellow team. All the teams now start again from zero and we look forward to seeing which team wins in June.

    Elevens val

    Eleven’s Val

Years 1, 2 & 3 have enjoyed two full days of various activities including technology, painting, football, cross stitching, baking and finger knitting.
Although all pupils did not take part in finger knitting , it has certainly become a popular pastime in school, with children doing it at every chance they get!

    Thank you!

A big thank you to all the families who brought in beautifully wrapped presents to send off to Moldavia etc. We collected a record amount of 98 presents this year. This means that 98 more children will receive a present this Christmas. Thank you for taking the time and trouble.

    Year 5 to Rädda Ägget.

    Year 5 to Rädda Ägget
Year 5 have been very busy taking part in a competition organised by Chalmers called ’Rädda Ägget’. He whole class were involved and over a few weeks they designed and built a package that would hopefully save their egg from being smashed after a drop of 15m. The class voted which 2 they thought were best and which would represent them on the egg dropping day. The 2 that won were Omelette X3 built by Gabriel, Sixten and Nikolai and Ägg Bot built by Emilia and Michelle.
On Thursday 17th November we went to test our packages at Chalmers along with 112 other year 5 classes. In our group there were 6 other school and one y one the packages were dropped from a 15m crane and each team kept their fingers crossed that their egg would be safe when it reached the floor. Both Ägg Bot and Omelette X3 did the job and passed the test.

    Gothenburg Champions!

    Gothenburg Champions!

Year 9 boys won the Gothenburg Championships in Ultimate Frisbee today. They won all their matches in style, only conceeding 3 goals during the whole day of matches, which is incredible in the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. The year 9 girls also performed well taking 3rd place and the bronze medals.

In my opinion the year 9 proved once again that they are probably the most talented sports class in the whole of Sweden, in non-sport specialist schools. Over the years this class have now accumulated major championship titles in Athletics, Basketball, Handball, and Frisbee. Well done year 9!

    School fitness record smashed

    School fitness record smashed

John-Olof (Year 8) recorded an amazing 14.4 on the multi-stage fitness test this week, breaking former pupils Max Cahlins phenomenal school record of 14.1 set in 2009. John-Olof is Sweden's best young figure skater with a bright future and a commitment to reach the top rarely seen in someone so young. He regularly competes for the national team, and has a long term goal to succeed in future Winter Olympics. Its important to note that his classmate Vojtech pushed him all the way, finally dropping out at level 14.0 and recording the 3rd best result on the all-time list.
At The English School we use the British version of the multi-stage fitness test, this is not the same as the one used in Sweden. The British version is much tougher! David Beckham has achieved level 16, and the great British distance runner of the 1980's Sebastian Coe got to level 17, at the same time he was world record holder over 800m. The former Ifk Göteborg footballer Håkan Mild has achieved level 19 using the Swedish version which is equivalent to around level 16/17 on the British test.

Y2 visit to Frölunda Fire station.

Y2 Visit to Frölunda Fire Station

A visit full of “wows” and “look at that”.
We had an interesting visit and Jesiah was most impressed by
the hose that was 1km long. Mia and Ona enjoyed seeing the old fire cart that
was pulled by horses, and Atusa thought the computer inside the fire engine was impressive.
We also looked at their uniforms which cost around 10 000kr each.

However the most exciting thing was when the alarm went and two fire engines left the
station within 90secs. after receiving the alarm.

Immanuel enjoyed the visit but was disappointed he couldn’t slide down the pole which is about 10m long.
