Etiquette and Privacy

  • Be polite. Never send, or encourage others to send, abusive messages.

  • Use appropriate language. Students must remember that they may be alone with their computer, but what they say and do can be viewed globally. Never swear, use vulgarities, or any other inappropriate language.

  • Illegal activities of any kind are strictly forbidden.

  • Privacy. Students should never not reveal their home addresses or personal phone numbers or the addresses and phone numbers of other students or members of staff.

  • Electronic Mail. Electronic mail (e-mail) is not guaranteed to be private. Messages relating to or in support of illegal activities must be reported to the authorities.

  • Students may not forward personal e-mail to mailing lists or Usernet without the original author's permission.

User Responsibility

The content and maintenance of a user's electronic mailbox is the user’s responsibility:

  • Check e-mail daily and remain within your limited disk quota.

  • Delete unwanted messages immediately since they take up disk storage.

  • Keep messages remaining in your electronic mailbox to a minimum.

  • Never assume that your E-mail can't be read by anyone except yourself; others may be able to read or access your E-mail.
